The company provided technical assistance services to the Ministry of
Rural Development to set up and supervise two regional micro project promotion units in
Segou and Mopti Regions (130,000 km2). Project staff provided management
training, organisational planning services and engineering expertise which were used in
the selection and implementation of rural projects presented by local development groups.
Additional funding was provided by UN development agencies, Government Departments and
local NGO's. A total of 89 projects were implemented which included the provision of
potable and irrigation water supplies, water conservation through mini-dams, village based
veterinary services including the building of livestock handling yards, fishing nets and
outboard engines, feeder road construction, agricultural equipment manufacture and
assembly, agro-forestry, school classrooms, rural health clinic buildings, and many
others. Logistical and financial control was enhanced by the introduction of a computer
based record keeping system. |
