Project staff provided training and advisory services to the central staff of the Directorate of Crop and Animal Production (DCAP) under whom the Extension Services are organised. These services assisted the DCAP to develop and refine their extension policy, the co-ordination of activities in the sector provided by other donors and the preparation of long- term policy directives and associated work plans. A monitoring service was established to assess extension service activities and a comprehensive training programme introduced for senior and middle management as well as local extension staff, who are training in excess of 200 staff. The extension activities included the establishment of pilot, on-farm demonstrations. By the end of the project 11 new districts were added in the National Extension System.
