Environmental impact assessment of a partial diversion of the Acheloos River |
Greece |
1994 |
|
Identification of the primary and collective impact on the physical,
social and economic environment resulting from a partial diversion of the waters of the
second largest river in Greece for hydro-power generation and irrigation purposes.
Critical assessment of the agricultural component of the project and provision of advisory
services to the Ministry on the likely effects on the local agricultural economy during
the construction phase and the post implementation implications on the environmental,
economic and social parameters. Re-definition of the benefits to be gained from a
significant increase in water availability for the currently over exploited ground water
supplies in the agriculturally important Thessaly Plain. |
