The assignment was a pre-feasibility study on the technical
requirements and the specific communities' needs for the establishment of a network of
small earth dams to contain precipitation for drinking and irrigation purposes. The
geographical area covered was the dry islands of the South Cyclades: Naxos, Paros,
Santorini, Thirassia, Ios, Amorgos, Anafi, Sikinos, Folegandros, Antiparos, Donousa,
Iraklia, Shinousa, Koufonissi. For each one of these islands a report was produced
covering: description of existing environmental issues; geology profile; agricultural
economics aspects; hydrology and hydraulic constructions; information on the local
population - socio - cultural aspects; requirements and quality of water for drinking and
irrigation purposes. |
