National study to define an environmentally sound and sustainable
development plan for eco-tourism, which would take advantage of the uniquely beautiful and
internationally famous Greek flora and fauna. The study included issues concerning the
conservation and protection of rare species, such as the caretta-caretta turtle,
marine parks, and the RAMSAR convention protection scheme for aquatic habitats and
marshlands. Greek ecosystems were mapped and an approach to model the eco-tourism
development was attempted. Distinctive characteristics of both mainland and island Greece
were identified and evaluated and an outline national development plan for eco-tourism was
formulated. (In association with KANTOR S.A.) |
